Why Life

We choose life instead of death let's hope our games reflect that.
I have been playing games since maybe 4 years old because my
sister needed to get a computer it was called 286 to give you
a reference its hard drive had a capacity of 40 MB :)
So I was playing old games and newer and newer and there where
Bright stories and Dark stories and every game gives you a
kind of feeling.
And there where some games I did not want to play because
I did not like the feeling as we all do. In light of that lately the
term "Dark fantasy" became somewhat prevalent and I would like
to offer an alternative to this for people who have had enough
dark reality let's say "Bright fantasy". And that does not mean
childish or it can only be bright if it is for kids and the adults
get the darker stuff. How about you leave the game with a sense of
happiness accomplishment and overall brightness. You have to judge
it your selves how much we succeed :)
So I am not saying we will be the first game but it feels like
the offered games on all platforms don't offer a balanced selection
between depicting the real but dark part of life and the equally
real bright part of life. We shall aim to add to the bright part
of games offered. So don't get me wrong I don't seek balance
like some famous knights with plasma swords. I would like
to see more bright than dark games on the stores. Is it not said
that video games are a form of escape from reality than it seems
not too logical to escape into a world where the dark parts of
our real life can be experienced more distinctly. If you're gonna
escape this life go to a world filled with the best parts of
life and experience them equally distinctly. Because it seems
the first idea how it appears to us humans when we see
example 1:
A happy ideal family on a vacation children laughing and
you see good relationship between parents and siblings and joy
and good life in general.
We say: oh idyllic just wait till the kids don't get everything
they want then you see how real this impression was. In essence
this is fake it can happen for a while but never lasts so not
so real like the next example.
example 2:
War zone same family but everyone is torn to pieces last surviving
member cries.
We say: now this is reality this is the absolute truth now thanks
to this you learn to properly appreciate the few moments of example
number one and how fleeting they are.
But I say (along many people before me and after and today) No. Both
are equally real there is nothing weaker about example number 1
And we don't need example 2 to feel it more we can just learn to enjoy
it. example 2 is first of all not necessary but also happens much less
and why? Is that a fact or some romanticizing of the world? you may ask.
Well even thou you can find suffering every day in some part of the
planet it can not last in a specific area of the world too long.
Simply because starving humans tend to die (I don't take human death
lightly) and the suffering is over(focus on the suffering ending not death).
And what is this the history of humans has like the boring periods with
hardly any record and then the detailed descriptions of wars and battles.
So it brings the feeling the entertaining part of life on Earth is war
and so it feels natural to make a game about WW2 that is the interesting
part(don't get me wrong I love a good shooter, strategy and all the fighting).
But all that led up to the war is equally entertaining the joy of the
farmers when their crops had a good harvest and was sold for good money
fed the family. But also the soldier practicing his skill of shooting
a rifle or bow and getting really good giving him some joy also
in real combat but most skills are learned before the war. So
notice the good part was not the killing if he had hit the target
the enemy soldier and made him unable to fight the rest of the war but
he can move freely and returns to his family and work and have fun
just his ability to join a war was removed the Joy of the sniper
would be even bigger the killing part took some fun out of it.
That is why video games are the perfect place for war because nobody
gets hurt and the feeling on the side of the player are even better
for the player/soldier than the real world sniper who killed someone's
brother, friend ...
But still the war is a limited experience of humans because of resources.
First enough resources must be gathered to start a war a once they are
depleted the war must end so we can allow our selves the luxury of
real war only a few times in a hundred years and it is stupid to buy
this luxury experience at the cost of real lives games are the proper place
for war.
My point in all this is bad things are much less real than good things
that is why we want to celebrate life and not death in our games.
So let's fill the games with beauty and give the player happy endings
give them life feeling uplifted and a feeling of accomplishment. Even
if it simulates war which often happens in multiplayer shooters where
there is great happiness from a good fight. It does affect real life on this
planet. Some may argue ha ha really a gamer changes the world what
does it matter if he leaves his computer filled with good or bad feelings.
Well let me explain: War is also just an idea in somebody's head before
it is declared and the soldiers start moving. So what leads to this idea well
generally thinking about I don't have enough of this but I do have enough
to start a war let's get it by war.
So since wars still happen it is just useless to put the bad
things from wars into games like suffering and deep sadness we have
enough of this in the world unlike the good part of war
like victory, success, great skills.
Now when a gamer leaves his computer happy and ready for real life
he may turn his thoughts into actions and so be kind or generous to somebody
and so decreasing the lacking experience a little bit. What? will it end
wars let's hope but the lacking experience is bad even before it culminates
in a war. We should remove this completely and see how far we can take it.
So my hope is if our games depict War it will be the best parts of war making
somebody more fulfilled after playing and therefore not being so prone to wanting to
get something by lawless violence and ultimately by war.
Less looting more healing.
